Gary, I used to listen to you in the late 70’s on WUWU 107.7, I think it was. You turned me on to a lot of cool music, most importantly though was the insight you provided about the artists. Today, I appreciate music spanning most genres and love to introduce others to things they’ve never heard. Thank you so much for helping to turn me into the fanatic I now am!
Ed, Thanks for the kind words. I am hoping to revive Oil of Dog as a syndicated show. Let me know if you know of any stations that might have room for a couple of hours of freedom and madness each week. Thanks.
Really glad to find you here, Gary. Your show is one of very few happy memories I have about Buffalo in the 1970s-early 80s. (Well, that and one particular Extra Cheese gig at McVans.)
Thanks Chris. I have revived Oil of Dog on Santa Fe’s public radio station. My next show is this coming Monday Night February 11, 2014, Midnight Mountain Time (Monday night into Tuesday morning), USA, online at http://ksfr.org/schedule/ksfr. Hope you have a chance to check it out.
gary….you were and will always be my fave dj….lived in bflo for forty years and currently reside on the caribbean island of bonaire ( the dutch have the shittiest taste in music) …….i called you many many times and you were aways warm and gracious. particularly remember a great talk with you the night reagan was nominated (Bleeehh) . recently finished a book of lester bangs writings ( prompted by the whole PSH horror) which lead me to thinking of you and your wonderfulness….glad to hear you’re still out there and doing well….
Gary, What a delightful find. Loved Oil of Dog. Worked third shift and rarely missed a show for years. Was a big Pegasus and Jumpers fan. Was listening to cassette recordings of your final show: “At Last I am Free, I can hardly see in front of me.” Love that song. Also “Please Don’t Pass me By” from Leonard Cohen. Happen to be researching Louie the Mad Vinyl Junkie, a guest on that last show. Good luck with your new show. If you’re looking for radio stations, try KNBA.org. It’s a native/public radio station out of Anchorage…Great people. Thanks for so many hours of listening pleasure.
Another late 70s Buffalo listener I won an album from you – some band from Akron that mentioned you on the liner notes I hope I can hear you online I do remember that great segues and prog and punk rock that you turned me onto at 4-5 in the morning Love van der Graf too
Thanks Mark. I’ll bet that album is the Bizarros. I am broadcasting Oil of Dog online. On LKCB at http://www.lkcb.ca – Sunday 8:00 East, 7:00 Central, 6:00 Mountain, 5:00 Pacific, and Saturday midnight East, 11:00 PM Central, 10:00 PM Mountain, 9:00 PM Pacific. You’re right it was the Bizzaros. I assume the show’s title comes from the Ambrose Bierce short story ?
I hope to listen in tonight, the show brings back a lot of memories.

I remember listening to a LOT of your stuff Gary, and really miss it. In particular when you ran your series, The Ring of the Niebelung for Punks.. Remarkable Stuff!
Gary, it makes me a little happier to know that all these years later you’re still doing your DJ / music / whatever stuff. You’ve still got that old magic. Keep up the good work! The world is a better place with you in it. – Pete from UB.
Great stuff as always Gary! Thanks much. . . .
